Brilliant
But why converse profections when AC is cardinal?
Hi Paul,
Abu Ma’shar writes in his “on the revolutions of the years of nativities” (cazimi press 2019):
“An if these forur indicators were convertible signs, then they are turned from the position of each of them backwards, a month of ervery sign: and it si that you assign the place in whihc it is the first month, and the twelftsh sign of it to the second month, and the elventh signs sign from it to the third month (…) until the second sign from it belongs to the twelfth month. ” p. 558, 27
Nicely laid out. Thank you. One thing that struck me, that I’m unfamiliar with, is profecting the months backward when the ascendant is cardinal. Can you please point me to which Hellenistic astrologer stipulates this…
Hi Kieran, sorry for the delay of my answer.
Abu Ma’shar writes in his “on the revolutions of the years of nativities” (cazimi press 2019):
“An if these four indicators (he means the profected AC, profected SR AC, the ninth part and the profected lot) were convertible signs, then they are turned from the position of each of them backwards, a month of ervery sign: and it si that you assign the place in which it is the first month, and the twelfth sign of it to the second month, and the elventh signs sign from it to the third month (…) until the second sign from it belongs to the twelfth month. ” p. 558, 27
I hope this helps!
None of the earlier Hellenistic astrologers that I’m aware of spoke of this. Was it just Abu Ma’Shar? I almost feel like like the concept was added to make something work in hindsight, or if it was done predictively, was there evidence of it working, or are you still in the process of observation of its’ efficacy?
well, Abu Ma’shar was one of the most well known and appreciated Persian astrologers of his time. I tried his method, as I already did in my article on Covid-19 in Italy too, btw.
I am not aware of any other astrologer who directs in converse order, but if we don’t try those techniques, we won’t learn anything.
Also, was this only used in the SR chart, or any profection?
in both. But for profections remember that you start counting from the profected house for the mothly profections and not the radical AC.
