[:en]No more chemicals in my clothes!![:]

[:en]

For many years I have been using biological alternatives to supermarket detergents. But for my laundry, I still had not found the right one for me. I wanted something easy to adopt, without necessity to weight or count anything and it had to be local, regrowing and for free. I was convinced, that if in India they had wash nuts, nature would have provided us here with something similar.

When I was a little girl, we used to live in an alley with lots of chestnut trees. We played with the fruits and made little figures. But I always wondered why nature wasted so much! They were useless, as we could not eat the nuts.

But you can wash with them!

Chestnuts do contain natural soap and are well known for their cleansing properties. They also serve as a softener and get rid of odors and stains.

Here is the chestnuts washing milk recipe!

  • Have a walk in the forrest or parks and search for chestnuts. Find at least 15-20 chestnuts

  • Peel them (you can also NOT peel them, but then you will get a brown milk, which I rather use for colored clothes)

  • Boil them for 15 minutes in 1,5 l water

  • I fed my juice extractor with this kind of white/yellow soup. The result is a creamy liquid.

  • I fill plastic glasses with the liquid
  • and put them in the freezer

  • Every washing maschine you want to do, needs one plastic glass of chestnut soap.I additionally add 1 tablespoon of sodium percarbonate (active oxigene), which disinfects and is good against stains. I put it in the compartment for the main wash.

  • Finally, I add one shot glas of vinagre in the compartiment of softener in which I add 5 drops of lavada, for the good smell!

Thatโ€™s it! Easy, clean and chemical free.

  1. I can’t believe how well this works… I did 4 loads of laundry with chestnuts now, it works and smells and feels beautifully. I do not own a juicer though, I just peel the chestnuts, cut them in pieces and let them soak in water (300 ml) over night. That (strained) liquid replaces the laundry detergent.
